Qaisar Sheikh, Head of Education Law at Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC), was announced as one of the winners of the prestigious Legal Hero Awards 2023 on 7 September. The awards, run by the Law Society, recognise the solicitors who have made the biggest difference to the lives of others, their local communities and society over the last two years.
Qaisar was nominated by barrister Laith Dilaimi of Old Square Chambers for his work in bringing important cases before the Upper Tribunal, leading to further judicial guidance in areas of SEN and discrimination. He was also praised for developing and strengthening CCLC’s education law practice.
The Law Society celebrated Qaisar’s work to shape education law and described him as “a consistent fighter for the most vulnerable in society, helping children and young people with a range of disabilities and special educational needs”.
Ros Akar Grams, Managing Director of Legal Practice and Children’s Rights at CCLC, said:
Huge congratulations on this significant achievement and recognition of everything that Qaisar does to protect the education rights of children and families. Qaisar leads a dedicated team of legal aid lawyers who work tirelessly to ensure those with special education needs and disabilities are able to access education. As one of the largest and the longest standing providers of this service, this work changes the lives of hundreds of families every year.

I’m truly honoured. When my work was described I couldn’t help but be reminded of the incredible achievements of my colleagues at Coram Children’s Legal Centre, who are even more deserving of this recognition. Pleased to shine light on our important work.
